This lintel, together with two others that are currently in the British Museum, are considered among the finest ever carved in the Maya area and are the work of one and the same artist. They were originally set in the same building and they each recorded an important event in the life of the important Yaxchilan ruler Itzamnaaj Bahlam (Shield Jaguar).
