View of the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent
This bas-relief carving is repeated many times on the tablero of this structure.
There are, however, many variations on this theme.
I will attempt to describe the carving based only on this
picture, to aid those who have trouble seeing the imagery.
This is not a scholarly interpretation, only a description of the elements
in this image.
The particular panel depicted here shows a seated man with a beard, a headdress
with feathers,
and a pectoral around his neck. There are speech scrolls emanating from
his mouth.
He holds something, perhaps a basket, in his hands. In the lower right portion,
there is a jaw "biting" a circle with a cross on it. At the top
right, there are two feet
walking above a U-shaped glyph (water?).
